Air Sea Lines, the new face of convenient travel within Greece, have just started a twice-daily seaplane service between Patras and Corfu.

An enjoyable 40 minute scenic and most convenient flight, seaplanes will gradually serve more and more islands (we are impatiently waiting for our first chance to try the service – wishing Air Sea Lines rapid expansion….why not ? ). Their plans are to expand to running a fleet of 30 aircraft in the next 4 years.

It is planned for Ithaca and Lefkada to be the next locations to be served by the sea plane service.

Mooted new name for Olympic Airways is ” Pantheon Airways ” – well there have been many off-beat airline names….

Olympic Airways name and logo (brand) would be auctioned off

All this subject to final negotiations, discussions, wrangling and big bad EU approval !

The story of privatising Greece’s flag carrier has been fraught with delays. We hope this will be the last stage of the process to bring a new baby and a healthy adult into the airways linking Greece, its islands and the world.

Chania airport goes 24/7

Posted In: Crete, flights by Roger

24 hour operation capability and permitting for Chania airport (CHQ), will pave the way for an increase in flights from many European centres.

Demand is continually growing for access to Chania and the West areas of Crete.

(So do please “come on in EasyJet……Roll on down Ryanair!” – we would welcome your serious consideration. Why not add Chania to your route network….better get there soon, before I start my own new airline . . . ).

Sunny days and hours of sunshine in each day seem now to be outnumbering the opposite type (those unnecessary winter days of gloom, rain and shabby shade that were an absurd invention to begin with ! ).

A national strike on the 15th day of March did not help us – we don’t strike, we work, we proceed, we move forward we create, we conquer (you know who does strike, you know the ones who stop work – did they ever start….don’t you ? ).

We receive handfuls of enquiries every day from those who wish to know when a ferry, a catamaran, perhaps out of desperation even a piece of floating wood might sail from Crete to Santorini and vice versa in April, next month (a few days away). These have not yet been published but we expect them any day and will try to rush them out on our Crete website.
But why oh why should we go through this every year ?
Instruction to the Minister in Greece responsible for shipping, my dear Manolis Kefaloiannis: Manoli – change the system – you are in power now, have you noticed ( ? ) – and make it so that shipping companies are assigned confirmed routes a year in advance if necessary, providing they publish schedules at least six months or more in advance. Now I’m waiting and expect action – get on with it!

(We cannot expect all these wonderful visitors coming to Greece to keep waiting year after year for a supposedly European country to get its act together – you listening Manoli ? )

Hey its March! Am I not permitted a Spring rant…. ! ?
