The underemployed should become fire-spotters in Greece

Greece in common with many countries has had to contend with forest and mountain fires of a great magnitude this summer.

It would be a good idea for the under-utilised public sector employees (some of the huge number in Greece do have time to spare in their “jobs”) to be put on fire-watch rotas. Although not a cure, the early spotting of fires before they rage out of control would be a help.

Perhaps those on unemplyment benefit may also spend a day a week in this role.

It would feel, for those involved, like volunteering (a good feeling) and would also confer on those “drafted” the great experience of being very useful.
