This is a one-day foraging & culinary tour around Mochos traditional village in Crete and not only.

Considering our principles as enjoy and respect nature, appreciate tradition and learn from science we welcome you to join our superb culinary tour to learn about the delicacies hidden in great, wild Cretan nature... this a foraging walking tour to de-stress you from modern life and reconnect you once again with mother nature.
We will explore the culinary culture and natural landscape off the beaten track by foraging – sourcing food in nature – which has been commonplace throughout the history of Crete. A one-day group culinary adventure at Mochos village, just a 30min drive from Heraklion, full of flavours, scents and imagery which is guided by a local botanist with international experience.
During our foraging tour, we will walk down a beautiful path in the country where we will enjoy nature and forage for wild greens (horta) and herbs. The walk will take us through small neighbouring villages. The tour includes tasting of local mezes (traditional tapas style food) in Mochos and surrounding villages during the day. In the afternoon, we will go on another herb walk in the country and finish the day with a herbal workshop at a traditional house in Mochos where we will make oil infusions, using organic family-produced olive oil and wild herbs collected on our walk. These oil infusions can be used for cooking and participants can take them home with them.
When and where
We will leave from and return to Heraklion port and after around 30min will reach our destination Mochos Village.
The price is €65 per person (€50 for children aged 6-12) including oil infusions that participants can take home with them.
Transport can be provided for an extra €25 per person
Groups are kept small to ensure that our impact on nature is minimal.
Who is this tour for?
This tour is for anyone who enjoys being out in nature and is curious about the authentic flavours of Cretan cuisine. We take time to explore and enjoy Crete and all it has to offer.
The food we collect and prepare is plant-based, but participants can taste a variety of traditional recipes on our visits to traditional local restaurants.
You can join us if you are an experienced forager or just curious to try it out.
The walk is not physically challenging and is suitable for anyone with an average physical condition.
It is advisable to bring some water and sunscreen with you and wear a sun hat and sturdy shoes, as well as weather-appropriate clothing.
About Your Guide :
Your tour guide will be Haris Saslis. Haris was born on Crete, where he spent the first 18 years of his life roaming in nature. It was during that time that he was first exposed to foraging by his family. He then went on to study biology with a focus on botany, followed by a PhD in evolutionary biology and traditional medicinal plants in the UK. He worked as a plant researcher in the UK, Australia and Denmark before deciding it was time to return to roaming in nature on Crete.
