Ferry Services to Improve for 18 Remote Destinations in Greece

Ferry services are expected to improve for 18 destinations that have been added to the Shipping Ministry’s remote island transport map.

It is reminded that the ministry’s new remote island policy saw the increase of funds for ferry services to remote destinations by 40 million euros to 130 million euros from 90.7 million euros. The funds, which will be drawn from the Public Investment Program, will cover the modernization of ships used on remote island routes and their fuel costs.

According to an announcement, the remote Greek destinations to receive improved ferry links are:

• Alexandroupolis, Samothraki, Limnos
• Kos, Nisyros, Tilos, Halki, Symi, Rhodes
• Rhodes, Megisti (Kastelorizo)
• Sitia, Kasos, Karpathos, Rhodes
• Patmos, Ikaria (Agios Kirikos), Fourni

The ministry also announced an upcoming route connecting the Northeast Aegean islands (Chios-Mytilini-Limnos) with Thessaloniki.

According to the ministry, more destinations will be added to the remote island transport map in a later stage.
