The magical beach of Agiofarago

We are in Asterousia Mountains in Crete. A dry and barren landscape in the southern mountain range of Greece

In the wider area there are countless gorges and caves with wild beauty and views of the South Cretan Sea.

Agiofarago is located in the prefecture of Heraklion, very close to the Monastery of Odigitria.

It was created by the riverbeds of two streams, which meet near Agia Kyriaki and after a relatively smooth route inside the gorge, end at a magnificent beach.

In the longest route of the gorge rise huge rocks with many caves. Just before going out to sea, there is a climbing field for sports lovers.

The name of the gorge is due to the hermits who practiced in this secluded place that was the first large ascetic center in all of Crete. It is said that 300 hermits lived in the gorge.

The visitor crossing the gorge encounters oleanders, wild olives, endemic plants and herbs and finally ends up on a beautiful beach.
