Summer Festival (annual) has become famous for its variety of events for citizens and visitors alike. 

It features over seventy different performances, involving artists from a lot of countries. Do come along - festival evenings are sure to add to your enjoyment of the city.

Tickets are normally available 7 days in advance of performance from either the Municipality Box Office at the Nikos Kazantzakis Garden Theatre or Dokimakis Bookstore at Kantanoleon 4, Heraklion.

Heraklion is Crete’s biggest city (among Chania, Rethimno, Agios Nikolaos, Sitia, Ierapetra), whose emblem is the Venetian fortress of Koules and it harmoniously combines a multilingual past as Byzantine churches standing next to the Venetian mansions. Heraklion or Iraklion the birthplace of El Greco and Nikos Kazantzakis can at first seem a nightmare, particularly if you arrive expecting to see a picturesque little island town but stay longer and you will leave Heraklion with great memories.
