Xenia Hotel ideally located in historical village of Sfakia / Chora Sfakion ... small, hospitable, a heavenly spot to watch the sunset, excellent-value, delicious food, your best choice for this particular part of Crete.
A place to smell the sea and feel the sky, with stunning sea views ... as far as the eye can see.
Derived from the rich history of both its site and layout, which is one long continuous hall, Xenia Hotel joins the dots between a historic and modern lifestyle.
The original small hotel building was built by the Greek National Tourist Organization in the early 1960s as part of its campaign to establish good hotels for tourists and to set a standard of excellence.
Over the years slight improvements were made but it was not until the GNTO sold the hotel to the present owner, Giannis Braos, that the major improvements and renovation took place.
There are 24 beautiful, simple rooms, with wooden beamed ceilings and stunning sea facing balconies. Modern bathrooms with brilliant showers. All necessary facilities, such as air conditioning, satellite TV, hairdryer, safe, refrigerator and well appointed furnishings.
The rooms face either South, directly over the Libyan Sea; East -into the old harbor; or West towards the majestic cliffs and mountains and the often dramatic sunset.
Two beautiful terraces / areas have been created where sun beds are placed for use by hotel guests, where you can easily tan or bath through a little stair, that gets you in the blue/green amazing sea with rocky bottom: fantastic!
The Xenia hotel has its own parking on the west of the building.
The hotel has its own tavern- restaurant and George the manager specializes in cooking fresh, local food, particularly local meat and fresh fish. Local and good quality products are used for all meals - from local eggs for breakfast to Sfakian lamb, sausages, chicken, pork, fish and vegetables. The restaurant looks out over the water and is a lovely place to dine in the evening.
Xenia (Greek: ξενία, translit. xenía, meaning "guest-friendship") is the ancient Greek concept of hospitality, the generosity and courtesy shown to those who are far from home and/or associates of the person bestowing guest-friendship.
