Orthodox Easter: a sacred and much-cherished tradition for millions of Orthodox faithful

Kalimera Crete Traveller,

In Greece, Easter is a time of hope and renewal.

Like springtime itself, a time of new beginnings.

Especially this year, my hope is that it will be so for all of us.

For over 1,000 years, Orthodox Christians have celebrated the miraculous appearance of a sacred flame from inside the tomb of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem.

The best 3 trails to hike to Timios Stavros, of Idi or Psiloritis Mountain

The best 3 trails to hike to Timios Stavros, of Idi or Psiloritis Mountain

Kalimera Crete Travellers,

I hope you are fine.

I am quite sure that a few or maybe more of you are coming to Crete targeting to hike up to Mount Ida or Psiloritis, which is the highest mountain in Crete, and is located in the center of the island.

This mountain has always an impressive look on the inhabitants and visitors of Crete, from the Minoan era till now.

There are three ways to head to the summit of the Ida mountain, Timios Stavros (Τίμιος Σταυρός), 2,456 m.

The summit is named after the drystone chapel there, dedicated to the Holy Cross.

The trails are signed, crossing a rough, arid, and rocky, landscape but it is worth the hike up to top.
