The Old Fishermen's House Anatolika is a simple but charming cottage perfect for escapists and is located a few meters away from a beautiful secluded sandy beach on the south of Rethimno-Crete, nearby Kerames Village, and just 2.8 km away from the superb Preveli Palm Beach and Monastery.
This simple one story cottage sits in its own shady garden, just a short walk from the beach and, although the East of Preveli Villas (same owner) is on the hillside above, there is complete privacy and the only views from the cottage are out across the Libyan Sea, making it feel truly secluded.
Sensational sea views, harmony with nature tranquility, serenity, peace of mind, relaxation, isolation far from the noises of crowds, great sandy beaches, hiking along the beach, minutes away from Preveli Beach, Triopetra Beach, Ligres Beach, and many more.
The interior of the cozy, beach cottage is simple and uncluttered, it features two (2) bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with 2 single beds sharing a tiled bathroom, with a shower. Furthermore, there is a large open plan kitchen dining room. There are air-conditioning, Satellite TV, and the open plan kitchen is fully fitted with a cooker, fridge, and microwave. The cottage has a large patio to its front with patio furniture, facing the sea. It is surrounded by a large garden with palm trees and a variety of plants.
You will love to spend your time here, enjoying the stunning sea views, reading a book, or just "dreaming". Sunbeds are provided for placing in the shade of the palms and mulberries and there is an attractive covered pergola, an ideal spot for reading. The covered veranda is furnished for dining too, and meters away you will find a stone-built barbecue and a wood-burning oven made of local stones.
South Rethymno a very unique area still unspoiled by tourism, the views and the many secluded beaches around are maybe some of the best in Crete.
The nearest tavernas and mini-market are just three kilometers along the coast at Ammoudi and the Beach of Preveli and the biggest one at Kerame Village. For more serious shopping, eating and banking, you have to get to Spili Village which is a 15.2km drive although there are a handful of tavernas in the villages en route.
A car is considered to be essential due to the cottage's location and to explore this unspoiled area.

Eating
The complete kitchen invites the preparation of culinary delights at The Old Fishermen's House Anatolika. The fully equipped kitchen provides you utensils and basic ingredients (herbs, olive oil, bin bags, sponges, etc. are provided). Your garden is ideal for al fresco meals with amazing sea views.
Don't forget to stock up as you pass through at Kerame Village or Spilli Village. There is a small mini-market on the Ammoudi Beach (3 km dirt track), but with limited supplies.
Would you maybe like to eat out?
Agia Fotini Taverna is just a 5 minutes drive. Agia Fotini is a traditional taverna popular with Cretans who travel from miles around to enjoy fresh food in an idyllic location and probably is going to remind you of the Crete in the 60s and 70s. It specializes in fresh fish caught by local fisherman – or Stavros himself when he gets the time to go out in his boat.
Or maybe something more traditional and the unique atmosphere of a small village, then drive up to Drimiskos Village for local rabbit and delicious cheese pies.
There are two tavernas above Ligres Beach both family-run and both have been quite popular with previous guests.
Further at Triopetra, there are other two tavernas that offer free sunbeds if you use their tavernas.
Note that you don't have to go up to Kerames to get to either Ligres or Triopetra Beach, there is a turning right which is signposted for Ligres approx. 1 km up the hill (tarmac road).
Kids
Kids are welcome at Anatolika House.
The house is most appropriate for families with two children.
No pool is available.
Activities
- The Old Fishermen's House Anatolika is located in a remote part of south Crete ideal for walkers and those who like to get away from it all. People who enjoy small uncrowded, secluded, quiet, unspoiled superb beaches.
- Discover the small, authentic small villages around and just feel another way of life
- A short walk to the east brings you to the long sandy beach of Ligres and Triopetra, or three rocks, while to the west you can reach the palm beach of Moni Preveli and the ancient monastery of Preveli within a couple of hours on foot – or less than 20 minutes by car and of course the beach of Agios Pavlos to the east.
- Visit the famous springs of Spili, just 30 minutes away, and the fishing harbor of Agia Galini (34 km).
- Hike the little-known but impressive gorge of Agios Antonios.
- The Minoan sites of Phaistos (52 km) and its recently discovered port at Komos, and the Roman city of Gortys are also within easy reach.
- A short drive away, the Amari valley is a wonderful place to visit in the heat of the summer, where the traditional mountain villages with their plane trees, cool springs and kafenions are still untouched by tourism.
- In spring the whole area is rich in wildflowers and there are marvelous walks in the mountains and along the sea from Agia Fotini to Moni Preveli and Agios Pavlos and through traditional villages.
- On the hill near the tavern of Agia Fotini, you can still see the ruins of the ancient town Kionia, which flourished in the Prominoan years. Today, the ruins of the town cover an area of more than 150 meters (from east to west) and 100 meters (from north to south), while the other half of town is situated below the sea surface, in front of the tavern.
- If you do start observing the surrounding area, you will notice traces of buildings and terraces that indicate the existence of Kionia. It is believed that when the town began to sink in water, inhabitants were forced to abandon it and move on higher areas, where the villages Kerames and Agallianos are now located.
