Rethymno combines rarely united features: the old town’s charm and history, with proximity to a long sandy beach.
Although it is the third-largest town in Crete, Rethimnon never feels like a city like Chania and Heraklion do.
During your stay or your visit to small, picturesque Rethimno a worth visit could be the manufacturing store of local musical instruments of Stagakis.
"Stagakis" Cretan Lyra workshop makes traditional Cretan Lyras since 1945 and is one of the best manufacturers of Lyras in Crete.
They build and send Lyras all over the world, wherever there is a passion for traditional Cretan art & music.
The most famous and well known Cretan artists choose Stagakis Lyras. The wood used for Cretan Lyra construction is Walnut tree, Mournia, Austrian Kelembeki, Asfendamos, and the extremely rare and precious Katrani.
The explicit sound fidelity and crystal clear sound quality make the most famous Cretan artists choose Stagakis Lyras for over 60 years.
The Cretan Lyra and Stagakis manufacturing store of musical instruments are not simply connected but synonymous with the construction of this instrument. The current form of the Lyra was originally constructed circa 1940-45 by Manolis Stagakis but at the same time, he changed its timbre.
The manufacturing store of musical instruments has now passed to the son, Dimitri and to his grandson, Emmanuel, also the address has been changed and the manufacturing store of musical instruments has now moved to Kastellakia of Rethymno where they worthily continue the construction of musical instruments with great respect because of the name they inherited and with expertise for over 60 years.
The amount of Lyras that 3 generations have constructed is approximately about 4,500 in number and the performance precision of the sound produced by their crystal tone has made the greatest Cretan artists and the amateurs too to prefer us for over 65 years.
